Lane County Citizen Review Board

When?
One weekday per month
What?

Citizen Review Board (CRB) of Lane County is looking for volunteers are to serve the children, youth, and families in the foster care system. CRB volunteers are appointed by the Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. CRB volunteers meet one weekday per month to provide the case review and oversight of children and youth in state custody and out of home placements (foster care).

Volunteers work to promote conditions which ensure that every child lives in a safe, secure, healthy, permanent home and preserving families whenever possible. Volunteers may also review the case plans of youth in the custody of the Oregon Youth Authority, focusing on issues surrounding youth reformation and public safety. CRB volunteers advocate for effective child welfare policies and practice which support healthy children and families. A stipend is available for expenses related to volunteering (mileage, meals, daycare, etc.) for those who meet eligibility requirements.

FairTrade store clerk

What?

“Fair Trade on Main” is a fair trade store operated by Brethren Community Services. It is open Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. We sell “fair trade” items made by craftspeople in 85 developing countries, who are paid a fair and just wage, by their local standards, for their products. Volunteers man the cash register, greet customers, answer questions, stock shelves, arrange displays, etc. New volunteers are paired with experienced ones and have two hours of training before starting. Brethren Community Services’ primary mission is to develop affordable housing and supportive services for low-income adults with psychiatric disabilities, in cooperation with ShelterCare, a Lane County non-profit that currently operates such services at the site. The store is a way to raise funds for our projects and to educate people about who we are.
