Tax Preparer - FREE TRAINING EVERY TAX SEASON

Where?
Various Locations in Eugene/Springfield

AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free tax service. Over 32,000 volunteers provide free tax preparation and can electronically file both federal and state returns. Volunteers provide this service to those who need it the most – taxpayers with middle to low income, with special attention to those over the age of 60.

The AARP Tax-Aide program, which is in partnership with the IRS, seeks volunteers from our local communities every year at tax time. Volunteers are provided with free training on how to prepare basic, individual, income tax returns and how to file them electronically. Instructions cover both Federal and State tax returns. All materials and training are provided at no cost.

Volunteers who wish to prepare taxes must possess basic computer skills. Bilingual volunteers are also needed to translate between the taxpayer and the volunteer preparing the taxes.

Volunteers receive triple benefits – current tax law knowledge, additional computer skills, and an opportunity to help others in their community. Training is scheduled each year during the month of January. Every tax season, volunteers are recruited to work a minimum of 4 hours a week from February 1st until April 15th. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage. In 2007 there were 12 sites located in the Eugene/Springfield area, open avariety of hours, days of the week, and some evenings for volunteers to choose from. This last tax season we had almost 100 volunteers who prepared over 6000 tax returns locally.

If you are interested in volunteering, please call either Mary Koebrich at 485-4404 or Sharon Looney at 954-2311.
